Technology Operations Director

About the opportunity

The Technology Operations Director will oversee SWCA’s cloud and on-premise infrastructure, end user computing systems, and information technology service (ITIL) ecosystem – service strategy, service design, service transition, service operations, and continual service improvement, driving the effective build, upkeep, availability, maintenance, and continuous improvement of SWCA technology while executing best practices in incident management, problem management, change management, and supporting teams in asset management and other related Technology services and operations.

 

The Director will provide expert opinions, recommendations, and manage successful execution of strategic initiatives, projects, and programs, for Technology infrastructure and support while working closely with leaders in Solution Development, Geospatial Sciences, Information Security, and other disciplines. The Director will also contribute technical perspectives to strategic business discussions and advocate for best practices.

The right candidate will be a highly engaged, passionate champion for the standards that go into delivering the most valuable technology infrastructure, support, and service to maximize the user technology experience.  A creative and strategic thinker, working comfortably in a highly collaborative team and effective in a constantly evolving environment. In this role, the Director will be instrumental in building and nurturing strong relationships with business leaders, fostering trust and alignment around shared goals. By collaborating effectively and understanding the broader business context, the Director will ensure technology initiatives and operations are seamlessly integrated with SWCA’s strategic objectives.

What you will accomplish

  • Plan for and use resources efficiently, always look for ways to reduce costs, create accurate and realistic budgets, track and adjust budgets, contribute to budget planning.
  • Work with Technology PMO to establish project goals, milestones, and procedures, define roles and responsibilities, acquire project resources, coordinate projects throughout the company, monitor project progress, and manage multiple projects.
  • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance customer experience.
  • Stay attuned of trends in cloud technology, networks, servers, ITIL, technology service and support.
  • Lead teams to envision, design and implement best in class user experiences and supportability for the business with the highest quality to meet the objectives of the business through infrastructure systems, support, and service while maximizing automation to find efficiency and optimize performance.
  • Understand changing business needs and advocate for proactive investment (architecture changes, services, automation etc.) to maintain optimal delivery velocity without sacrificing quality.
  • Ensure that support resources, cloud and on-premise infrastructure, and end user systems are aligned with operational and system company objectives and meet rapidly evolving security standards.
  • Lead regular staff meetings to communicate corporate messages, project updates, and upcoming work to team members. 
  • Provide forward-thinking guidance and direction for the development and implementation of new technologies and innovative processes. 
  • Work with vendors and across the Technology team to ensure we secure the appropriate licensing and service agreements so that our staff have the right tools to do their jobs.
  • Participate in presentations, client interviews, and other business relationship activities.
  • Collaborate with business leaders across SWCA to collect feedback from stakeholders and institute technology service improvements supporting business priorities and requirements.

 


Experience and qualifications for success

Qualified candidates will demonstrate an appropriate combination of the following additional competencies and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Information Systems, Business Administration or related field or the equivalent work experience required.
  • 10+ years related ITIL experience.
  • 3–4 years of management experience in a company of similar or larger size required.
  • Proven experience and knowledge in support, service, infrastructure, and related ITIL domains and methodologies, as well as the management of ITIL in medium to large businesses.
  • Ability to lead a team and resolve issues that arise in an efficient and diplomatic manner. 
  • Proven experience developing team skills and mentoring required.
  • Regular travel to regional offices to meet with managers and team members.  
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.  
  • Familiarity with information security best practices, laws and regulations is preferred.

An employee in this corporate based position can expect an annual salary of $153,878-$201,053/year. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law.  Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
