Sr. System Analyst – GM Defense IT

GM Defense IT is seeking a Sr. System Analyst to support business and technology initiatives that enable secure, scalable, and compliant solutions across GM Defense. This role will work across business and IT teams to gather requirements, analyze processes, translate needs into future-state solutions, and help drive execution across areas such as manufacturing, SAP, CCA, vehicle engineering, supply chain, and other GM Defense priorities based on business need. This role should operate as a fully qualified and experienced individual contributor with complete knowledge of their area and broad knowledge of related areas. The role is expected to exercise independent judgment on significant matters, break broad challenges into implementable initiatives, identify opportunities to improve processes and services, solve diverse non-standard problems, work independently with minimal guidance, and act as a resource and mentor to less experienced team members. What You'll Do Lead and support cross-functional initiatives that advance GM Defense business and engineering priorities. Partner with business, engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, SAP, and IT stakeholders to define needs, evaluate options, and deliver effective solutions. Gather, analyze, and document business requirements, workflows, and system needs and translate them into detailed requirements and actionable solution designs. Identify, document, and communicate system, process, data flow, and operational changes needed to improve performance and support business outcomes. Participate in both technical design discussions and business-facing forums to align stakeholders and move work forward. Support delivery of solutions that meet GM standards while also addressing government defense and other government-regulated program requirements. Identify risks, dependencies, compliance considerations, and integration impacts across projects and operational activities. Help refine, support, and transform new and existing applications and processes in collaboration with development and support teams. Support issue triage, investigation, escalation, and resolution for complex inquiries, production issues, and system problems as needed. Use data and analysis to demonstrate value, support recommendations, anticipate objections, and influence decisions across stakeholder groups. Coach and mentor less experienced team members and serve as a knowledgeable resource across the function. Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience. 7+ yrs of experience in systems analysis, business systems analysis, IT software applications, requirements definition, process definition, testing, or IT strategy and roadmap development. Experience gathering requirements, conducting data analysis, understanding business strategy needs, and driving work toward solution design and execution. Experience in regulated or government-contract environments such as defense, aerospace, or other highly controlled industries. Demonstrated ability to work independently on significant matters, solve complex problems, and implement practical solutions with minimal guidance. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams and tailor technical discussions to the right audience. Ability to identify, investigate, resolve, and escalate issues as needed while supporting operational continuity. Ability to coach less experienced team members and contribute as a resource across the team. What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications) Experience in regulated or government-contract environments such as defense, aerospace, or other highly controlled industries. Understanding of government data classifications and handling requirements, including concepts such as Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), International Traffic In Arms Regulation (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), export controls, and classified program sensitivities Knowledge of government cybersecurity and control frameworks such as CMMC, DFARS, NIST SP 800-171, or NIST 800-53. Experience supporting one or more of the following domains: manufacturing systems and operations, customer care and aftersales or warehouse processes, SAP-enabled business processes and integrations, vehicle engineering or product development environments, or global purchasing and supply chain. Experience working in highly controlled environments with security, compliance, or regulatory constraints. Strong understanding of Agile, Scrum, and Waterfall delivery methodologies. The strongest candidates will bring structured analysis, sound judgment, strong business process skills, and the ability to operate effectively in complex and sometimes ambiguous environments.
