Senior Lead Curator, Modern Art Collection

This pivotal role is responsible for the strategic development, management, and interpretation of our modern and contemporary art collections. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of art history, exhibition planning, and audience engagement.

Responsibilities: Develop and implement a cohesive curatorial vision for the modern and contemporary art collections. Oversee the acquisition of new artworks through strategic purchasing, donations, and bequests. Conceptualize, research, and execute major exhibitions, publications, and public programs. Manage and mentor a team of registrars, conservators, and collection specialists. Conduct scholarly research and contribute to the body of knowledge through publications, lectures, and symposia. Collaborate with education, marketing, and development departments to enhance visitor experience and secure funding. Ensure the proper care, preservation, and documentation of the collection in line with best museum practices. Engage with donors, patrons, and the wider art community to foster support and collaboration. Stay abreast of current trends, research, and critical discourse in modern and contemporary art. Contribute to the overall strategic planning and artistic direction of the institution. Qualifications: Ph.D. in Art History, Curatorial Studies, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. Minimum of 10 years of progressive curatorial experience in a museum or major art institution, with a significant focus on modern and contemporary art. Demonstrated success in organizing critically acclaimed exhibitions and publishing scholarly catalogues. Proven ability to manage complex projects, budgets, and personnel. Exceptional research, writing, and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with diverse stakeholders. Experience with collection management systems and digital humanities tools is a plus. A passion for making art accessible and engaging for a broad audience. Willingness to travel for acquisitions, conferences, and research.
