Police Communications Dispatcher

In this role, you will play a critical role in the safety and security of our community by dispatching emergency services, maintaining communication with officers in the field, and providing crucial support to our law enforcement operations. As a Police Communications Dispatcher, you will need to possess strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Receive and process emergency calls and dispatch appropriate emergency services to the scene. Maintain communication with law enforcement officers in the field to provide support and relay crucial information. Remain calm and composed under pressure while handling high-stress situations. Utilize computer-aided dispatch systems to accurately document and track emergency calls and responses. Monitor multiple radio channels and respond to requests for assistance from officers, fire departments, and other emergency services. Provide guidance and instructions to callers in emergency situations, including performing CPR and other first aid as needed. Follow established protocols and procedures to ensure the safety of officers and the public. Keep accurate records of all calls and dispatch activities. Serve as a liaison between the public and law enforcement, maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor at all times. Assist in training new dispatchers and providing ongoing support and guidance to team members. Continuously update knowledge and skills through attending training programs and staying informed on current laws and procedures. Adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines to protect sensitive information. Maintain a positive and professional attitude while representing the City of Oakland Police Department. Respond to non-emergency calls, including requests for information and assistance. Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor or department.
