Communications Volunteer – THCVS Tower Hamlets CVS

Overview

Communications Volunteer Role

We are looking for a creative and enthusiastic Communications Volunteer to join our team, working alongside the Communications Officer and THCVS staff team.

Do you have a knack for crafting catchy social media posts? Are you passionate about social change and supporting voluntary and community groups in Tower Hamlets? We would love to hear from you.

Tower Hamlets CVS supports voluntary and community groups to run their organisations effectively, secure funding to deliver services and to connect and collaborate with each other. We are also an embedded strategic partner in the borough, bridging the space between the voluntary and community sector and statutory and other partners, enabling us to give a voice to the VCS and advocate on their behalf.

THCVS members can gain access to a wide range of benefits, including free, personalised 121 development support, access to free or discounted training opportunities aimed at building essential skills within the voluntary sector. Members can also take advantage of free job advertisements to reach suitable candidates and promote projects or events through our monthly e-bulletins, which reach over 1700 subscribers.

THCVS aims to provide groups with the resources, connections, and support necessary for voluntary and community sector organisations in Tower Hamlets to thrive and have a greater impact.

We also bridge the space between the voluntary and community sector and statutory and other partners, enabling us to give a voice to the VCS and advocate on their behalf.

Responsibilities

  • Develop engaging and informative social media content that showcases the amazing work of the VCS in Tower Hamlets (this could be writing posts about upcoming events, highlighting success stories, case studies, or creating awareness campaigns).
  • Craft multimedia stories: While social media is your main focus, you’ll have the opportunity to create impactful short films to further amplify the voices of voluntary and community groups.
  • Your photography skills are a valuable asset! You may be tasked with capturing compelling photos at events, workshops and with our members to complement social media content and short films.
  • Research and identify trending topics and hashtags relevant to the voluntary and community sector in Tower Hamlets.
  • Schedule social media posts across various platforms (e.g., Facebook, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram, Bluesky) using scheduling tools.

Skills & qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a creative flair for social media.
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms and best practices.
  • Interest in the work of voluntary and community groups in Tower Hamlets.
  • Passion for supporting good causes and making a positive impact.

Time commitment

Up to 7 hours per week, flexible hours. When travel is required, THCVS will cover travel costs within the borough and lunch up to £15 a day on days of travel.

We would prefer the volunteer to work with us in the office, but there is some flexibility to work from home.
