College Precalculus Tutor (Part-Time, Independent Contractor)

Redox Education is seeking an experienced and engaging mathematics tutor to provide one-on-one support for a college student enrolled in a Precalculus course.

About the Student

The student is currently enrolled in a college-level Precalculus course that emphasizes the study of functions and their applications. Topics include:

  • Polynomial functions
  • Rational functions
  • Exponential functions
  • Logarithmic functions
  • Piecewise-defined functions
  • Inverse functions
  • Graphing and function analysis
  • Mathematical modeling and real-world applications
  • Problem solving and quantitative reasoning

The course explores mathematical concepts graphically, numerically, symbolically, and verbally, with extensive use of graphing technology.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized tutoring sessions focused on course content and assignments
  • Explain mathematical concepts using multiple approaches and representations
  • Assist with homework, quizzes, exams, and study strategies
  • Support development of problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  • Help students interpret graphs, functions, and mathematical models
  • Reinforce calculator and technology-based problem-solving methods when appropriate

Qualifications

  • Strong background in Precalculus, Algebra, Trigonometry, or Calculus
  • Previous tutoring or teaching experience preferred
  • Ability to explain complex mathematical concepts clearly and patiently
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Education, Physical Sciences, or related field preferred
  • Current college mathematics students with strong academic performance are encouraged to apply

The ideal candidate is patient, encouraging, and skilled at helping students build confidence while mastering challenging mathematical concepts. Experience preparing students for higher-level mathematics courses is highly desirable.
